Measuring Distance

Post by bigfoote01 » 22 May 2017, 22:03

This is probably a simple issue, when I measure a distance in ABviewer, can I have this displayed in inches? I have a .stp drawing and I understand how to measure. I just don't understand what unit of measurement it is giving me to convert it to what I need.

I am just trying to measure the major dimensions, height x length x width.

Hello,

If I understand you correctly, you wish to be able to measure in inches instead of the default measurement units. This possibility was introduced to the beta version of ABViewer that you can download at:
https://cadsofttools.com/download/beta/ ... r_beta.zip (32-bit)
https://cadsofttools.com/download/beta/ ... ta_x64.zip (64-bit)
To set the measurement units, please call the Options dialog box by clicking File -> Options and select the Measure tab where you can select the original and displayed units of the drawing.

Thank you so much, this should solve my issue. Out of curiosity, what is the unit being used to measure?

Hello,

ABViewer uses decimal CAD units as the default measurement units. If you open the Options dialog window, you'll notice that the original and displayed units are set to Unitless that means CAD units:

Therefore, if you want to use the real world units for measurements (let's say, inches), you should assume that the original drawing units are also real world units (let's say, millimeters) by setting a corresponding value in the Options dialog window, and then set the displayed units to the desired value (Inches).

The following video shows how to display the measured values in inches:

After searching for posts similar, I found only this one
But the help video referenced here does not play due to some format issue ( I am on Win 10)
What then would be the correct options settings to measure distance in Inches ?
The dwgs I am viewing are in millimeters but need to measure inches.

btw I am in the Trial ver of ABViewer 12

Thank You

Hello,

The help video cannot be played in a web browser. Please download the video file to your computer and try to watch it with the Movies & TV app in Windows 10.

If a DWG file is in millimeters, but the measurements need to be taken in inches, you will have to set the Original units of the drawing to Millimeters and the Displayed units of the drawing to Inches.
